Why Do My Kidneys Hurt In The Morning

Kidney Pain Definition And Facts

10 Signs Your Kidneys Are Crying for Help
  • The function and purpose of the kidneys are to remove excess fluid and waste products from the body.
  • The kidneys are organs that are located in the upper abdominal area against the back muscles on both the left and right side of the body.
  • Kidney pain and back pain can be difficult to distinguish, but kidney pain is usually deeper and higher in the and back located under the ribs while the muscle pain with common back injury tends to be lower in the back.
  • Common causes of kidney pain are mainly urinary tract infections, kidney infections, and kidney stones. However, there are many other causes of kidney pain, including penetrating and blunt trauma that can result in a “lacerated kidney.”
  • If a woman is pregnant and has kidney pain, she should contact her doctor.
  • Symptoms of kidney pain may include
  • vomiting.
  • Kidney pain can be on the left, right, or both sides.
  • Causes of kidney pain are diagnosed with the patient’s history, physical examination, and lab tests, including blood, pregnancy, and urine tests. A CT scan or MRI of the abdomen and pelvis may be ordered.
  • Treatment for the cause of kidney pain depends upon the underlying cause, but in general, ibuprofen , ketorolac , and/or acetaminophen are used for pain. Antibiotics are usually required if the underlying cause is a bacterial infection.
  • Some people can pass a kidney stone spontaneously that resolves kidney pain; however, other people may need surgery.
  • Blocked Ureter And Kidney Infection

A kidney stone that blocks the ureter can lead to a kidney infection. This is because waste products are unable to pass the blockage, which may cause a build-up of bacteria.

The;symptoms of a kidney infection;are similar to symptoms of;kidney stones, but may also include:

    • a high temperature of 38C or over
    • chills and shivering

Kidney stones are usually formed following a build-up of certain chemicals in the body.

This build-up;may be any of the following:

    • calcium
    • ammonia
    • uric acid; a waste product produced when the body breaks down food to use as energy
    • cysteine; an amino acid that helps to build protein

Certain medical conditions can lead to an unusually high level of these substances in your urine.

You’re also;more likely to develop kidney stones if you don’t drink enough fluids.

    Symptoms Of Kidney Stones

Small kidney stones may;go undetected and be passed out painlessly in the urine.;But it’s fairly common for a stone to block part of the urinary system, such as the:

    • ureter the tube connecting the kidney to the bladder
    • urethra the tube urine passes through on its way out of the body

A blockage can cause severe pain in the abdomen or groin and sometimes causes a urinary tract infection;.

Kidney Pain In The Morning Best Home Remedies

If you suffer from kidney pain in the morning, you should consult a doctor. However, if he ruled out any serious medical disorders, you can try simple, yet effective home remedies to urinary tract issues. Also, if your doctor prescribed you any medicines, ask him if you can combine medical therapy with home solutions for a faster recovery and better effects.

    1.;;;; Plenty of Water

It is probably the easiest and the most effective natural treatment you can follow. If you want your urinary tract to function well, you need to drink a lot of water on a daily basis. This way you will flush all the harmful toxins and bacteria from your body. Whats more, it also prevents kidney stones formation.

The recommended amount of water is about eight glasses a day. However, you need to treat the matter individually as for some people five or six glasses of water are enough to stay well-hydrated. You drink enough mineral water if you urinate frequently and your urine has a pale yellow color. Therefore, always keep a small bottle of water close to you and drink it throughout the day.

    2.;;;; Fresh Lemon Juice

The acid which you can find in lemons and other citrus fruit can fantastically detoxify your body and dissolve the kidney stones. Therefore, a great idea is to start your day with a glass of mineral water mixed with juice freshly squeezed from a lemon.

    3.;;;; Prepare a Mustard Plaster

    4.;;;; Drink Dandelion Tea

    5.;;;; Cabbage Leaves

    6.;;;; Tomato Juice

    7.;;;; Use Parsley

    8.;;;; Watermelon Seed Tea

    9.;;;; Kidney Beans

Morning Baths Are Almost Miraculous For Some Kinds Of Morning Back Pain

    Kidney Pain In Morning

A hot bath is one of the oldest medicines. While most people appreciate a nice hot bath, few people think of it as a serious treatment for back pain just something that takes the edge off. Maybe.

But for morning back pain, it can be incredibly effective. Reader C.B. writes:

I am 73 with assorted age-related issues, but this low back pain every morning is new. Here is what I do: I run a hot bath, and jump in and immediately the pain goes away, all of it. Why would that be, and what does it mean?

    C. is not alone: many people report near rapid, profound relief from morning back pain. Baths seem to be at their best in this context, and its not clear why. When a bath has an immediate, profound effect on pain, its probably because immersion/flotation is a fairly potent dose of novel sensory input, which can very persuasively tell the brain that theres no need for the alarm of pain. This may be more pronounced with some kinds of pain that are aggravated by gravity, so the partial flotation might be directly relieving.

And then, by the time you get out of the bath, the relatively transient phenomenon of morning back pain is already retreating and perhaps even faster because of some thermal effects .

P.S. Showers may be just as good! Or nearly as good. It would be nice if I could cite a nice, well-controlled trial of this, but thats probably never going to happen.

    You’re Eating Too Much Salt

Your kidneys can also suffer if your electrolytes are out of balance. Sodium and potassium are constantly in competition with each other, and if you are consuming too much salt then these minerals will be out of kilter. As we know, our kidneys are responsible for maintaining a balance between electrolytes, so are forced to work extra hard if you have too much salt in your diet.

Unfortunately, its all too easy to have a high salt diet these days, as processed and packaged foods are in abundance; while fresh vegetables and fruits are found on fewer and fewer plates. Your kidneys can easily become overwhelmed by too much salt, and your cells can become swollen as they absorb water to try to dilute the high salt levels in your body. As a result, your body can become dehydrated and swollen.

So, although you might be drinking what you think is a sufficient amount of water, if you are consuming too much salt then this can alter your fluid balance and cause achy kidneys. Plus, you may not even be aware that your diet contains more salt than it should! Salt can be found in various supermarket products, not to mention that many of us add even more salt at the dinner table. The recommended daily salt intake for adults is 6g, and we should all make the effort to check the salt content of the foods were eating. You might be surprised at how much salt is in your food!

Main Causes Of Morning Back Pain

Why is back pain worst first thing in the morning, and what can you do about it?

I woke up with it is an amazingly common description of how low back pain started.

Why? Is sleeping dangerous? Probably not: waking up with back pain rarely indicates a serious problem. But both mornings and backs are unusually vulnerable to some common minor sources of pain.

This is mostly about chronic back pain thats at its worst in the morning, a common symptom pattern. People who are more or less pain-free during the day may still suffer for a while every day after waking up. But attacks of acute back pain are also much more common in the first few hours of the day see Steffens;et;al.2 and that phenomenon may be related to why chronic back pain tends to be bad in the morning.

Morning back pain is a tough problem to treat because most of it probably has several subtle chronic causes, but there may be some opportunities for treatment.

    Inflammation Sleep Stress And Pain

3 O’CLOCK IN THE MORNING PAIN

The link between sleep and pain is based on some superficially simple inflammatory biology: bad sleep is inflammatory and inflammation makes it harder to sleep, which is not widely appreciated. That means that sleeping badly can actually make it harder to sleep well!17 This is a vicious cycle every extremely frustrated insomniac is familiar with: being exhausted from a sleepless is not a guarantee that you will sleep well the next night.

And that vicious cycle is relevant to night and morning pain, which is known to be significantly mediated by the immune system signalling molecule interleukin-6. IL-6 and inflammation are almost synonymous more of one means more of the other. Everyone knows that stress makes it harder to sleep, but how? Its not just because your mind is racing its because stress makes us produce IL-6, which is inflammatory, and inflammation in turn makes it harder to sleep! And then the bad sleep also makes us pump more IL-6

And thats why its important to get your sleep!

    Upset Stomach Nausea Vomiting

    Why this happens:

A severe build-up of wastes in the blood can also cause nausea and vomiting. Loss of appetite can lead to weight loss.

    What patients said:

I had a lot of itching, and I was nauseated, throwing up all the time. I couldn’t keep anything down in my stomach.

When I got the nausea, I couldn’t eat and I had a hard time taking my blood pressure pills.

Sooner Or Later Any Posture Gets Awkward The Trouble With Tissue Stagnacy Regardless Of Position

Being still always gets uncomfortable, regardless of what position were in. We like to move, and sitting or lying down always gets uncomfortable in time. Forced immobilization is a potent torture method. Working in stagnant postures like sitting in at a desk, no matter how well we do it can start to feel more like a kind of torture as we age.21

Sleeping is an obvious potential source of tissue stagnancy, of course, but beds are more comfortable than chairs in every way, physically and psychologically. Healthy young people are relatively immune to simply being still in bed, but as we age and develop assorted vulnerabilities and sensitivities things like fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, and chronic inflammation it starts to become a problem.

Trigger points may be aggravated by stillness, for instance.22 Morning pain could be a wake-up call , letting you know that you have a bumper crop of mostly asymptomatic trigger points that flare up overnight. In Litas case, trigger points could account for the consistency of her symptom timing, and for the peculiar way in which she is fine at 6am, yet cant stay in bed past 7am, but then is fine again by 8am as she gets moving and her trigger points calm down.

    Causes Of Kidney Pain

    Kidney Pain In Morning

Kidney pain has many possible causes. These organs are connected to others like your bladder and ureters, where you store and get rid of urine.

Kidney stones. Intense, sudden, stabbing pain may be a kidney stone. These are mineral deposits that can grow large enough to block a ureter, a tube that connects your kidney and bladder. If that happens, you’ll feel sharp pain or cramps in your back or side. It can also spread out to your groin. As you try to pee out the stone, you might feel waves of pain.

Kidney infection. Also called pyelonephritis, this infection could cause discomfort in one or both kidneys. You may feel pain in your back, in your side or both sides under your ribs, or in your groin. You’ll also have a fever. Urinary tract infections also cause discomfort in this organ.

Kidney swelling. This condition, called hydronephrosis, can happen if your kidneys are blocked. Your urine can’t drain the way it should and builds up in your kidneys. This can happen in one or both kidneys and sometimes it causes pain.

Kidney cysts. You may not feel a simple kidney cyst until it grows larger. Once it gets big, you might feel a dull pain in your side or back, or feel pain in the upper part of your belly.

Polycystic kidney disease. This genetic disease causes many cysts to grow in your kidneys. They may cause you to feel a pain in your back or side.

    What Causes Kidney Malfunction

A major culprit of kidney problems is an acidic diet . A brand-new study sheds light on the renal problems that can be caused by a high-acid, meat-rich diet.

The study followed 1,500 people with kidney disease for a period of 14 years. Participants who ate a diet high in meat came very close to experiencing complete kidney failure, while those who ate more fruits and vegetables did not even come close to kidney failure. Researchers estimate that an acidic diet can make it three times more likely for your kidneys to fail.1

Says lead study author Dr. Tanushree Banejee,

Patients with chronic kidney disease may want to pay more attention to diet consumption of acid rich foods to reduce progression to kidney failuredialysis treatmentsmay be avoided by adopting a more healthy diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables.1

Fatigue Being Tired All Of The Time

    Why this happens:

Healthy kidneys make a hormone called erythropoietin , or EPO, that tells your body to make oxygen-carrying red blood cells. As the kidneys fail, they make less EPO. With fewer red blood cells to carry oxygen, your muscles and brain tire very quickly. This is anemia, and it can be treated.

    What patients said:

I was constantly exhausted and didn’t have any pep or anything.

I would sleep a lot. I’d come home from work and get right in that bed.

Your Body Is Struggling With Big Evening Meals

    There are other reasons for sweating during the night besides menopause and a heavy duvet. If you are overweight you may find that you sweat a lot during the night, and as a result wake up dehydrated and achy.;;

Eating large, stodgy meals in the evening will force your body to work harder to metabolise your foods. On top of this, eating shortly before bed means that your body will be working hard and sweating while you sleep, which once again will leave you dehydrated come morning.

A similar process will take place after drinking alcohol: 6 pints on a Saturday night, for example, will push your body into overdrive and make it work hard while you sleep. Not only does alcohol act as a diuretic and make you pee more during a night out, metabolising excess amounts of alcohol overnight will also put pressure on your system and cause you to sweat.

Top tip: Aim to stop eating a couple of hours before you go to bed, to avoid forcing your body to work overtime to metabolise large amounts of food while you sleep. This will help you to avoid discomfort and sweating during the night, which in turn will ensure that your body isnt dehydrated come the morning.

Connecting Inflammaging To The Curse Of Morning Back Pain

My Kidney Stone Story / Unbelievable Pain!

This is an interesting topic, but does it have anything to do with morning pain or back pain specifically?

The morning connection isnt much of a reach: for whatever reason, inflammatory diseases are notoriously morning-o-centric , and so its reasonable to assume that less serious inflammation has a thing for the morning too. We also know only just recently that the body can suppress inflammation at night, pumping out an anti-inflammatory protein on a schedule,11 which probably accounts for some morning pain and stiffness as the suppression wears off. No one knows anything about how to actually control that effect, but at least we know it exists.

The back connection is trickier. Being overweight is less of a risk factor for back pain than most people think,12 so theres no obvious association with metabolic syndrome. If there is a connection, it might be that the spinal joints are among the first structures to be affected by inflammation and not necessarily because they are more fragile or harder working than, say, knees, but perhaps because the brain is quite over-protective about the back, and more likely to raise the alarm sooner.13 Also, we do know that metabolic syndrome is associated with at least some common pain problems, like neck pain.14
