A Mri A Biopsy And A Diagnosis

What Foods Cause Kidney Stones?

He went and got the test. It was now 5.03. He immediately did a prostate exam, and ordered a biopsy. I said I have no other symptoms, and think that is invasive. So, we did a MRI at 8am on the next Friday. He called me at one, saying it was a good thing we did the MRI, because he never would have seen the spot on the other side of the prostate, or the one on the bladder. He said, we have to biopsy the prostate do see if it’s cancer, but the one on the bladder is. Both were very small, caught very early.

Cloudy Or Foamy Urine

Changes in the consistency of the liquid, including if it is cloudy or foamy, can be a sign of a urinary tract infection, an overabundance of certain minerals, a symptom of a chronic disease or sign of a kidney condition. If the discharge is cloudy with foam or bubbles, it could be a symptom of Chrons disease or diverticulitis. In some cases, it is also a sign of dehydration. Another cause could be that you love steak and eat a lot of red meat or are on a ketogenic diet .

Can Kidney Stones Affect Your Psa Count

No. Prostate-specific antigen is a protein produced by cells in the prostate gland. A PSA test is performed through a simple blood draw and shows the PSA level in a mans blood stream. Men who have prostate cancer often have an elevated PSA level. There are conditions that can result in high PSA levels that are not related to cancer. These include prostatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia .

Elevated Psa Levels Led To The Discovery Of My Bladder Cancer

  • Reactions 0 reactions

In 2017, I had blood work done, and a PSA exam was done. My level was 2.8. In Nov 2018, I had my annual, and the number was 3.8, so a 6 month was ordered. In May 2019, it was 4.83, so ordered another blood test in two weeks on a Friday, and a urologist on Monday. I went to the urologist, and he said the PCP should be having kittens over my PSA, and I said he was, and he ordered another test which was done Friday.

How to Quickly Remove Uric Acid Crystallization From Your ...

Elevated PSA levels dont necessarily mean that you have cancer. The PSA test is only one screening test that helps your doctor determine your prostate health. You might have high PSA levels due to a number of other conditions, including:

  • Your age
  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia
  • Prostatitis
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Recent urogenital medical procedure

If your PSA is already borderline high, even having a rectal exam or ejaculating could cause your levels to rise. Also, you could have a benign condition and prostate cancer at the same time.;

What To Do When A Kidney Stones Diet Doesnt Work

Dietary choices may not be enough to stop kidney stones from forming for all people. If you have recurrent stones, we recommended you talk to your urologist about what role medication can play to prevent them in the future.

Each type of kidney stone has a different type of medication that can help reduce the amount of that material present in the urine causing the stone.

For example if you get calcium stones, a urologist may prescribe phosphate or thiazide diuretic. A person who gets uric acid stones may benefit from allopurinol to reduce the acid in the blood or urine. Those with struvite stones may be prescribed a long-term antibiotic to reduce the bacteria in the urine. Lastly, a doctor treating someone with cysteine stones may prescribe capoten to reduce the level of cysteine in the urine.

Some prescriptions or over-the-counter medications you are taking could lead to kidney stones. Those include:

  • Diuretics.
  • Chemotherapy drugs.
  • Uricosuric drugs.

If you are taking any of the medications listed above, you should talk to your doctor about alternatives. Do not stop any medically prescribed medications without discussing it with your doctor first.

I do not recommend my patients use herbal remedies that are not well-researched or well-regulated for the prevention and treatment of kidney stones. It is best to head to a doctor to discuss your options.

When To Bring In The Professionals For Urine Color

Sometimes changes to a persons urine are temporary and harmless, such as the result of eating certain foods, taking medications or vitamins. But changes can also be a sign of a more serious underlying medical condition.

Anytime you see blood in your urine or notice it is brown or orange, it is time to seek medical attention and make an appointment with your primary care provider. This is especially true if the change lasts more than a day, or if it comes with back or side pain, fever, burning with urinating, vomiting, discharge or thirst.

Blood in the urine is a common sign of a urinary tract infection, kidney stones or urinary tract cancer. Brown or orange urine may be caused by a malfunctioning liver especially if it is partnered with pale stools and yellow eyes and skin.

What Is The Prostate

The prostate is a gland that is located just below a mans bladder. The tube that carries urine from the bladder and out of the body travels through the prostate. The main purpose of the prostate gland is reproductive. It is responsible for adding nutrients to sperm to help with fertilization of an egg.

Get Enough Calcium From A Balanced Diet

High Blood Pressure PSA

If you already have an adequate calcium intake, this may not be helpful to reduce your chances of stones. The amount of calcium you need depends on your age and gender. Check with your primary care provider or urologist on what is right for you. Also, make sure you have vitamin D in your diet to help the body absorb the calcium.

While you may think it would be helpful, taking calcium supplements does the opposite and may increase the risk. If you need to take supplements, be sure to take them with a meal to try to reduce that increased possibility of stones.

Dangers Of Dhea Otc Supplements

WAH,

Welcome here. I noticed you mentioned that your husband was taking DHEA. DHEA and similar type over the counter endogenous type hormone supplements have many dangers. We know from personal experience: my husband took OTC DHEA supplements for several yrs prior to his T3 PCa dx in 2010. He discontinued DHEA use immediately after dx. We may never know for certain if they contributed to his high risk dx but, as far as were concerned, they may have. Doctors we asked, just didnt know. It is what it is. Like most things, hindsight is often 20/20. Unlike Rx drugs, OTC supplements are not subject to strict FDA review, regulations and approval.

“Dehydroepiandrosterone, or DHEA, is a steroid hormone, a chemical cousin of testosterone and estrogen. It is made from cholesterol by the adrenal glands, which sit atop each kidney.” “In men, the increased levels of testosterone seen with daily DHEA pills could stimulate the growth of a tiny prostate tumor that would otherwise have remained dormant. Excess testosterone could also cause the prostate to enlarge, making urination difficult.”

IF YOU KNOW ANY MEN, YOUNG OR OLD, TAKING OTC DHEA SUPPLEMENTS, OR IN OTHER FORMS SUCH AS STEROID INJECTIONS, PED’s, ETC., PLEASE WARN THEM OF THE RISKS THEY ARE TAKING IN REGARD TO PROSTATE CANCER!

Best wishes and good luck on your PCa journey together.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Treatment

Kidney Stones Cause Ckd

Mild cases of BPH usually require no treatment. A variety of treatments are available for moderate to severe cases, including medications, minimally invasive therapy, and conventional surgical therapy.

Urologists at UPMC provide expert diagnosis and treatment of BPH, specializing in the following treatments:

  • Transurethral needle ablation is a simple, safe, and relatively inexpensive procedure for the treatment of BPH. The procedure usually requires only a local anesthetic. The urologist inserts a catheter into the urethra. The catheter sends out small need les into the obstructing prostate tissue. The needles give off high-frequency radio waves that heat and destroy the tissue. Clinical studies have shown that TUNA provides excellent relief of symptoms and minimal side effects.
  • Transurethral resection of the prostate is the most common surgical procedure for treating BPH. The operation involves the removal of part of the prostate gland surrounding and constricting the urethra. The urologic surgeon passes a narrow tool with a wire loop on the end into the penis and through the urethra to the prostate gland. Electricity is then passed through the wire to heat it and cut the obstructing prostate tissue.

What Is The Treatment For Bph

Specific treatment for BPH will be determined by your doctor based on:

  • Your age, overall health, and medical history

  • Extent of the disease

  • Your tolerance for specific medications, procedures, or therapies

  • Expectations for the course of the disease

  • Your opinion or preference

Eventually, BPH symptoms usually require some kind of treatment. When the gland is just mildly enlarged, treatment may not be needed. In fact,;research has shown that, in some mild cases, some of the symptoms of BPH clear up without treatment. This determination can only be made by your doctor after careful evaluation of your individual condition. Regular checkups are important, however, to watch for developing problems.

Treatment for BPH may include:

  • Laser surgery. Using laser instruments to cut away obstructing prostate tissue.

  • Open surgery. Surgery that requires an external incision; often;performed when the gland is very enlarged, when there are complicating factors, or when the bladder has been damaged and needs to be repaired.

  • Nonsurgical treatments may include:

  • Balloon urethroplasty. A thin tube with a balloon is inserted into the opening of the penis and guided to the narrowed portion of the urethra.;The balloon is inflated to widen the urethra and ease the flow of urine.

  • Transurethral microwave thermotherapy. A device called a Prostatron uses microwaves to heat and destroy excess prostate tissue to reduce urinary frequency and urgency.

  • Lifestyle management for BPH may include:

  • Staying Hydrated Helps Prevent Kidney Stones

The number one natural way to prevent kidney stones is to drink more water. If you are not hydrated, you will not produce enough urine. This can increase the chances of kidney stones because low urine output means the urine is concentrated and less likely to dissolve urine salts that cause kidney stone.

I recommend that you drink around eight glasses of water each day. If you sweat a lot, exercise or have a history of stones, you may benefit from additional fluids.

A good way to tell if you are drinking enough water is to look at the color of your urine

Orange juice and lemonade are also good options to drink because they contain citrate, which prevents stones from forming.

    Psa Increases After Surgery

If your PSA is elevated after prostate cancer surgery, it can be a false positive result. It may take some time for your blood to show the results of the surgery. During your recovery, your physician will monitor the level closely. Since results immediately after surgery can be skewed, any test results should be repeated after you have fully healed and recovered. Since each patient is different, this recovery time may take a few weeks or even up to a few months. During that time, your physician will let you know how often to test your PSA. Once you fully recover, your physician may ask for further tests to determine the cause of the elevated PSA and formulate a plan for any additional treatment.

    Medical Tests For Prostate Problems

Diet Tips to Prevent Uric Acid Kidney Stones

The prostate is a walnut-sized gland in men that produces fluid that is a component of semen. The gland has two or more lobesor sectionsenclosed by an outer layer of tissue. Located in front of the rectum and just below the bladder, where urine is stored, the prostate surrounds the urethra, which is the canal through which urine passes out of the body. The most common prostate problem in men under 50 is inflammation or infection, which is called prostatitis. Prostate enlargement is another common problem. Because the prostate normally continues to grow as a man matures, prostate enlargement, also called benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH, is the most common prostate problem for men over 50. Older men are at risk for prostate cancer as well, but it is much less common than BPH. Sometimes, different prostate problems have similar symptoms. For example, one man with prostatitis and another with BPH may both have a frequent, urgent need to urinate. Other men with BPH may have different symptoms. For example, one man may have trouble beginning a stream of urine, while another may have to get up to go to the bathroom frequently at night. A man in the early stages of prostate cancer may have no symptoms at all. This confusing array of symptoms makes a thorough medical examination and testing very important. Diagnosing the problem may require a series of tests. Male urinary tract, front and side views.

    Benign Causes Of Elevated Psa

Although both benign, prostatitis and BPH can still cause issues related to discomfort and infertility in men. Therefore, treatment may be ordered to alleviate these conditions. Discussing symptoms and treatment options with your physician is the best way to find the right treatment for you and your situation. Most physicians will start with the least intrusive treatment first to make treatment easy as possible for their patients. Treatments can include:

    • Restricted diet

    Diagnosing Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

The doctor will usually press on and manipulate the abdomen and sides to detect signs of kidney or bladder abnormalities. The doctor will also check for signs of anemia or swelling in the legs and arms.

Certain procedures that test reflexes, sensations, and motor response may be performed in the lower extremities to rule out possible neurologic causes of the bladder dysfunction.

There are several tools and examinations the doctor may use to diagnose or rate the severity of your condition, including:

Finding The Right Athletic Cup To Avoid Possible Testicular Pain

Common causes of raised PSA in men

An athletic cup should be worn if a male is involved with any kind of activity that can cause a groin injury, regardless of his age. The cup is made of metal or plastic and has padding on the inside. A cup should be worn as soon as a young athletes testicles and penis are big enough to fit in one. The cup might have holes in it for airflow.

Boys and men usually wear an athletic supporter, or jockstrap, to hold the cup in place. This will keep the testicles stationary and close to the body. Younger boys can order a smaller size cup than what stores might usually stock, and they can wear briefs instead of boxers to have a tighter fit.

In addition to holding a cup in place, wearing a jockstrap or compression shorts can help keep the testicles pressed against the body. While they are not as protective as a cup, they are better than no support for use in contact sports. They can also be used to prevent jostling around of the testicles in sports like running, basketball and skating. For contact sports, I always recommend taking the extra step of the full security of a cup.

Over the years, manufacturers of genital cups have made many improvements, and now there are many options that are cushioned making a cup more comfortable to wear. Many athletes dont wear a protective cup because it is uncomfortable or because they feel it restricts their movement. But thats not a good reason to refuse sensible protection.

Are Kidney Stones And Prostate Cancer Related

No. Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer among men in the United States. The exact cause of prostate cancer is unknown but there are risk factors that elevate your chances of developing prostate cancer. These include:

Age You are more likely to develop prostate cancer if you are over the age of 50.

Family history Prostate cancer seems to run in families. Having a father or brother with prostate cancer more than doubles your risk of developing it.

Race / ethnicity Prostate cancer is more common in African-American men and Caribbean men of African ancestry than in men of other races.

Kidney stones are not an identified risk factor of developing prostate cancer. Recurrent kidney stones can cause other complications, like increasing your risk of developing chronic kidney disease.

Kidney stones, prostatitis, and prostate cancer can all cause difficult or painful urination, pain in your abdomen or pelvic area, and a frequent urge to urinate. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important talk with your doctor. Your doctor can determine the cause of your symptoms and provide you with an individualized plan to begin treatment as soon as possible.

    How Does Bph Occur

The prostate goes through two main periods of growth. In early puberty, the prostate doubles in size. Then, around age 25, the prostate begins to grow again and continues to grow throughout most of a man’s life.

The continuing enlargement of the prostate does not usually cause problems until later in life. However, the second period of growth may, many years later, result in BPH. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases:

    • BPH rarely causes symptoms before age 40.

    • More than half of men in their 60s have some symptoms of BPH.

    • As many as 90 percent of men in their 70s and 80s have some symptoms of BPH.

    When Is Bph Treatment Necessary

The course of BPH in any individual is not predictable. Symptoms, as well as objective measurements of urethral obstruction, can remain stable for many years and may even improve over time for as many as one-third of men, according to some studies. In a study from the Mayo Clinic, urinary symptoms did not worsen over a 3.5-year period in 73% of men with mild BPH. A progressive decrease in the size and force of the urinary stream and the feeling of incomplete bladder emptying are the symptoms most correlated with the eventual need for treatment. Although nocturia is one of the most annoying BPH symptoms, it does not predict the need for future intervention.

If worsening urethral obstruction is left untreated, possible complications are a thickened, irritable bladder with reduced capacity for urine; infected residual urine or bladder stones; and a backup of pressure that damages the kidneys.

    • Inadequate bladder emptying resulting in damage to the kidneys
    • Complete inability to urinate after acute urinary retention
    • Incontinence due to overfilling or increased sensitivity of the bladder
    • Bladder stones
    • Recurrent severe hematuria
    • Symptoms that trouble the patient enough to diminish his quality of life

In some cases, a kidney stone diet may be enough to prevent stones from occurring and giving you kidney stone pain. While it is not complicated, it may take some dedication.

If you have ever had a kidney stone before, I am sure you remember the pain. According to the National Kidney Foundation 1 in 10 people will develop kidney stones in their lifetime. For most people, kidney stones are not a one-time occurrence and another will appear within seven years without preventive measures.

If you have passed a stone before, it is helpful to get it tested to learn what type of stones you have and what prevention tips may work best for you.

Types Of Genital Injuries In Sports And Treatments

Testicular injuries can be very serious and in worse case scenarios can result in the loss of a testicle if not treated correctly. The types of genital injuries that can occur in sports include:

    • Epididymitis causing the epididymis, the tube that holds the sperm after leaving the testicles, to become inflamed or infected.
    • Hematoma a blood clot that can cause bruising on the surface or within the testicle.
    • Scrotal or testicular contusion injury in the blood vessels that causes internal bleeding in the respective area.
    • Testicular rupture blood and other contents leak into the scrotum from the testicles after contact causes one or both to smash against the pubic bone.
    • Dislocation pushing the testicle out of the scrotum.
    • Degloving The scrotum is torn away.
    • Testicular torsion at least one testicle gets twisted inside the scrotum, cutting off the flow of blood. This requires emergency treatment.

A Dozen Things That Can Raise Your Psa That Arent Cancer

Elevated PSA levels dont always spell cancer!

This month was Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.; So you went to your doctor for an exam and a Prostate Specific Antigen blood test.; If your; came Prostate Specific Antigen back 1.0 ng/ml or less, congratulations on a perfectly healthy prostate!; However, if you are one of the many men whos Prostate Specific Antigen level is slightly to moderately elevated , not to worry, it doesnt necessarily mean cancer!

There are many things that can contribute to an elevated Prostate Specific Antigen level beside having cancer.; Think of PSA as a barometer of overall prostate health.; If levels start to rise then its time to take action as something is going awry.

  • Relative Prostate Volume If you have a small prostate your PSA level may be slightly lower than the average.; Likewise, if a normal healthy prostate is larger than the average, PSA will be higher.
  • Sex Ejaculation causes a temporary rise in PSA level.; Additionally, having too much sex puts stress on the prostate gland causing irritation which will elevate PSA levels.; I recommend waiting 72 hours after sexual activity before having your PSA test.
  • Groin Injury Any type of groin injury such as a pulled muscle or impact to the groin area can elevate PSA levels.; This could also include such things as a car accident, broken hip or pelvis.
