What Are The Specific Types Of Feline Kidney Disease

There are many types of kidney disease in cats. Some are congenital and some are developmental.

Your veterinarian will be able to tell you which type your cat has.

While I cant get into every specific type of renal disease, here are some types you may encounter.

  • Renal agenesis is the failure of kidney formation: sometimes kidneys dont form at all.
  • Renal dysplasia: means abnormal kidney development.
  • If one or both kidneys are displaced, your cat may be diagnosed with renal ectopia.
  • And then there is polycystic kidney disease which comes with the formation of cysts throughout the kidney tissue.

Kidneys are complex.

That means there are a lot of things that could go wrong.

Structural issues, blood vessel problems, responses to outside influences, all the way down to the cells that make up the kidneystheres so much to know about these small but important organs.

While listing all of the exact diseases and congenital problems are beyond the scope of this article, I found a comprehensive list right here.

Should I Be Concerned About Parabens

Parabens are chemicals used as preservatives and as food additives. They can be found in many types of make-up and skin care products . Parabens can be absorbed through the skin.

Intake of parabens is a possible concern because studies have shown that parabens have weak estrogen-like properties. Estrogen is a female hormone known to cause breast cells to grow and divide. And some conditions that increase the bodyâs exposure to estrogen have been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer.

In 2004, a small study found traces of parabens in some samples of breast cancer tumors. But there are some important points about the study findings:

  • The researchers looked only for the presence of parabens in breast cancer samples. The study did not show that parabens caused or contributed to breast cancer development in these cases it only showed that they were there. What this meant is not yet clear.
  • Although parabens have weak estrogen-like properties, the estrogens that are made in the body are hundreds to many thousands of times stronger. So, natural estrogens are much more likely to play a role in breast cancer development.
  • Parabens are widely used as preservatives in shampoo, lotions, other cosmetics, and even foods. This study did not contain any information to help find the source of the parabens found in the breast tissue itâs not clear if they might have come from antiperspirants or from some other source.

In the age of fake news anybody can put out false information that snowballs into perceived reality. Just because its widely believed and accepted does not make it true. Information, true or false, travels at the speed of light in the age of the Internet. Once launched, no matter how well-intentioned, misinformation can take on a life of its own. It spreads like wildfire.

Aluminum chloride and aluminum chloride hexahydrate, the active ingredients in many underarm antiperspirants, continue to be maligned by multiple sources. Lets answer the question posed by this article, Is antiperspirant bad? and get to the bottom of why some people may think that it is.

Toxic Chemicals & Heavy Metals Can Be Deadly For Kidney Disease

Kidney Failure End Of Life Care

Every day we are exposed to toxic chemicals and heavy metals without even knowing it. Our body intakes toxic chemicals through breathing, ingestion, or skin absorption. Exposure to toxic chemicals may pose threats to your kidney health and cause damage to other organs. In todays video, Robert talks about the adverse effects of toxic chemicals for kidney disease and how you can better manage them.

Todays video is about toxic chemicals and kidney disease. Thanks for watching this is Robert Galarowciz, naturopath, nutritionist, kidney survivor still have my av fistula and have a transplant coming up just almost 18 years that is lasting 11 years longer than it was supposed to because of my obsession with kidney disease and keep myself from ever going to dialysis.

How Can You Be Exposed To Toxic Chemicals?

Were going to talk about where you get them where some of them are and Im going to talk about what you can do to help yourself detox from these if you want you can get tested checking for heavy metals but just going through a list here some common ones are benzene, fertilizers, pesticides, heavy metals like mercury, aluminum, and cadmium. You can get exposed to all these from breathing and ingestion, eating them.

Causes Of Excessive Gas And Belching And Their Relation With Kidney Diseases

The usual cause of belching is a distended stomach caused by swallowed air. Other source of excessive gas is intestinal bacteria. The bacteria produce the gas when they digest foods, primarily sugars and nondigestible polysaccharides , that have not been digested during passage through the small intestine. Other reasons are:

  • Soft drinks contain carbon dioxide, which can produce large amounts of gas. Some people swallow air frequently because they have post-nasal drip, chew gum or smoke.
  • Rapid eating or poorly fitting dentures.
  • For some people, belching becomes a habit and does not reflect the amount of air in their stomachs.

Acute Renal Kidney Failure

It is a condition in which your kidneys stop working normally after detecting waste in your blood. When your kidneys no longer filter wastes, there is a risk of dangerous wastes accumulating and your bloods chemical makeup becoming unbalanced.

When your kidneys stop working suddenly, you may have acute kidney failure. There is no set time for it to occur. Your kidneys will return to normal if you get treatment as soon as possible. Your kidneys do their part by filtering out waste from your blood. If you are at risk of acute kidney failure, your doctor will order a blood test, urine test, and kidney test. A urine test can determine whether your kidneys are enlarged or if there is a blockage in your urine flow. In addition, they can tell your doctor if you have a problem with your arteries or veins draining out of your kidneys.

Why Is Determining The Speed Of Ckd Progression Important

As the above studies show, there is a myriad of factors that can contribute to how fast chronic kidney disease progresses. This is complicated by the influence that genetics, related medical conditions, age, sex, lifestyle, and other various health aspects can have on a studys findings. As a result, our knowledge of the disease and our ability to make accurate predictions about its trajectory remains imperfect, despite continued progress.

What Do The Stages Of Chronic Kidney Disease Refer To

Kidney (Renal) Disease Signs & Symptoms (ex. Peripheral Edema, Fatigue, Itchiness)

The five stages of CKD refer to how well your kidneys are working. Kidney disease can get worse in time. In the early stages , your kidneys are still able to filter waste out of your blood. In the later stages , your kidneys must work harder to filter your blood and may stop working altogether.

The goal at each stage of CKD is to take steps to slow down the damage to your kidneys and keep your kidneys working as long as possible.

Drug Elimination In The Bile

Some drugs pass through the liver unchanged and are excreted in the bile. Other drugs are converted to metabolites in the liver before they are excreted in the bile. In both scenarios, the bile then enters the digestive tract. From there, drugs are either eliminated in feces or reabsorbed into the bloodstream and thus recycled.

If the liver is not functioning normally, the dosage of a drug that is eliminated primarily by metabolism in the liver may need to be adjusted. However, there are no simple ways to estimate how well the liver will metabolize drugs like there are for kidney function.

What Are Dialysis And Hemodialysis

Dialysis cleanses the body of waste products by body by use of filter systems. There are two types of dialysis, 1) hemodialysis and 2) peritoneal dialysis.

Hemodialysis uses a machine filter called a dialyzer or artificial kidney to remove excess water and salt, to balance the other electrolytes in the body, and to remove waste products of metabolism. Blood is removed from the body and flows through tubing into the machine, where it passes next to a filter membrane. A specialized chemical solution flows on the other side of the membrane. The dialysate is formulated to draw impurities from the blood through the filter membrane. Blood and dialysate are never touched in the artificial kidney machine.

For this type of dialysis, access to the blood vessels needs to be surgically created so that large amounts of blood can flow into the machine and back to the body. Surgeons can build a fistula, a connection between a large artery and vein in the body, usually in the arm, that allows a large amount of blood to flow into the vein. This makes the vein swell or dilate, and its walls become thicker so that it can tolerate repeated needle sticks to attach tubing from the body to the machine. Since it takes many weeks or months for a fistula to mature enough to be used, significant planning is required if hemodialysis is to be considered as an option.

Treatment And Future Directions

Treatment of the nephrotoxic effects of cocaine, including levamisoleadulterated cocaine-induced ANCA vasculitis, primarily involves immediate cessation of the causative agent, BP control, and supportive care focused on apparent nephrotoxic effects. Additional treatment modalities for levamisoleadulterated cocaine-induced ANCA vasculitis often include immunosuppression based on disease severity. However, data on efficacy are limited primarily to a single center, Massachusetts General Hospital, where it appears that treatment typically mirrors that of patients with idiopathic ANCA vasculitis and is necessary and effective in severe cases . Furthermore, any potential treatment strategy is limited by struggles with adherence in individuals whose main priorities focus on the use and acquisition of cocaine . More targeted therapeutic options are needed, which will require in-depth mechanistic insights. Mechanistic animal studies could prove to be quite useful. Furthermore, it could also be proposed that levamisole or one of its byproducts, in the setting of cocaine use, could specifically react with MPO and/or PR3 to create neoantigens and spur autoimmunity.

What Is Kidney Disease In Cats

A cat has two kidneys, one on each side of the abdomen, and they play a vital role in filtering waste from the body. Additionally, the kidneys serve to regulate the bodys balance of fluids, minerals, and electrolytes. They conserve water and protein and play an important role in maintaining blood pressure and red blood cell production by making a hormone called erythropoietin.

There are different types of kidney disease in cats and various underlying causes. These often develop into one of two categories: acute or chronic.

Examples of acute kidney disease:

  • Parasitic infections

  • Bacterial infections, often caused by an ascending bladder infection, which can lead to pyelonephritis

  • Tick-borne diseases

  • Toxins, such as antifreeze, ingestion of lilies, and certain antibiotics

  • Shock and hypotension

  • Obstructive uropathy, often seen in male cats that are unable to urinate. This is considered a medical emergency

Examples of chronic kidney disease:

Cats cannot survive without their kidneys. Many of these conditions are progressive in nature and debilitating which can lead to death. When enough damage has occurred , signs become apparent and regeneration will not occur, leading to chronic kidney disease. Chronic renal failure , renal insufficiency, and chronic kidney disease are medical terms used interchangeably to describe the same condition.

Coronavirus Might Target Kidney Cells

The virus itself infects the cells of the kidney. Kidney cells have receptors that enable the new coronavirus to attach to them, invade, and make copies of itself, potentially damaging those tissues. Similar receptors are found on cells of the lungs and heart, where the new coronavirus has been shown to cause injury.

Treatment For Kidney Failure Transplant Or Dialysis

ABCs of Kidney Disease | Treatment Options for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

Many people with kidney failure can continue with treatment using medicines and will have good-functioning kidneys for the rest of their lives.

In a few people, kidney disease will progress to the stage where the kidneys stop working and it becomes life threatening. This is called kidney failure or established renal failure .

This rarely happens suddenly, and there will be time to plan the next stage of your condition. The decision whether to have dialysis, a kidney transplant or supportive treatment should be discussed with your healthcare team.

Cases Of Liver Injury

There are many case histories of liver damage from the use of amphetamines, particularly MDMA. A German teen who had been abusing MDMA on weekends for a few months suddenly developed jaundice and fatigue. His tests showed the presence of liver injury resulting from his drug abuse. Over the next four months, his test results recovered to a normal level.

A 32-year-old woman who had just used MDMA suffered a collapse associated with liver injury. She wound up in intensive care on a ventilator and was finally released ten days later.

In 1996, a study was made of seven young men who died after abusing MDMA or a similar drug. All had severe changes in their livers, and in one case, the liver was destroyed by the effects of the drug.

Go For Organic And Natural Deodorants

You are bound to be terrified now knowing what is contained in the deodorants and anti-perspirants that you have been using for years. However, this does not mean that you have to trade smell for health. Organic or natural deodorants ply the market these days, thanks to the awareness and ongoing demand for natural and organic products.

Natural deodorants do not contain any of the foreign-sounding and hard-to-pronounce ingredients mentioned above. Most of these deodorants work by masking BO with essential oils, flowers and other natural ingredients. Others, like the crystal deodorant, work by forming a topical layer on the skin that is not conducive for bacteria to live in.

It might not be easy to find an organic or natural deodorants at your regular pharmacies or supermarket but do not let that deter you from reverting to your regular deodorant. Familiar brands such as LOccitane and Country Farm Organics have a wide range of organic products, including deodorants, and as such youd be able to switch to healthier personal care product alternatives once and for all.
