It Can Introduce New Bacteria
Sexual activity is one of the most common ways bacteria get into the urinary tract. Ninety percent of UTIs are the result of Escherichia coli bacteria that have found their way into the urethra and beyond.
E. coli bacteria are most often found in the gastrointestinal tract or feces. These bacteria may move from the anus or GI tract onto you or your partners hands, mouth, genitals, or a sex toy.
Sex can also push bacteria further into your body through penetration, which sets up a higher likelihood of an infection. If you already have a UTI, penetration may reinfect you or introduce a new source of bacteria. This can lead to a longer recovery time.
Precautions A Kidney Stone Sufferer Must Take
The best and safest way to get rid of kidney stones is to prevent them from happening in the first place. Almost 90% of kidney stones are formed of oxalic acid and calcium or magnesium. Thus reducing the oxalic acid intake like spinach, sweet potato, chocolate will eliminate the chances of kidney stones. The other precautions include
1. Reduce the consumption of caffeine.
2. Drinking water will facilitate the passing out of kidney stones and prevent stones from forming.
3. Avoid drinking alcohol and soda.
4. Increase the intake of calcium and magnesium in your diet.
5. Reduced high sodium content food like canned foods, meat, processed chips, and crackers.
6. limit or avoid beef, fish, and poultry products.

The Effects Of Kidney Disease
The kidneys, located in the middle of the back, clean your blood and maintain a balance of salt and minerals in your system. They also help control blood pressure. Damaged kidneys can no longer filter blood, which causes waste and fluid build up.
The symptoms of kidney disease include vomiting, weakness, and swelling of the ankles. If left untreated, these damaged kidneys may stop working altogether, which is a serious health risk and potentially fatal.

Can Sexual Intercourse Be An Alternative Therapy For Distal Ureteral Stones A Prospective Randomized Controlled Study
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of sexual intercourse on spontaneous passage of distal ureteral stones.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The patients were randomly divided into 3 groups with random number table envelope method. Patients in group 1 were asked to have sexual intercourse at least 3-4 times a week. Patients in group 2 were administered tamsulosin 0.4 mg/d. Patients in group 3 received standard medical therapy alone and acted as the controls. The expulsion rate was controlled after 2 and 4 weeks. Differences in the expulsion rate between groups were compared with the chi-square test for 3 × 2 tables. P
RESULTS: The mean stone size was 4.7 ± 0.8 mm in group 1, 5 ± 1 mm group 2, and 4.9 ± 0.8 mm group 3 . Two weeks later, 26 of 31 patients in the sexual intercourse group, and 10 of 21 patients in tamsulosin group passed their stones, whereas 8 of 23 patients in the control group passed their stones . The mean stone expulsion time was 10 ± 5.8 days in group 1, 16.6 ± 8.5 days in group 2, and 18 ± 5.5 days in group 3 .
How Is Lithotripsy Performed
Lithotripsy procedures are typically done as an outpatient procedure. Urology San Antonio performs most outpatient procedures at the Pasteur Plaza Surgery Center .
Patients will be given a sedative or undergo general anesthesia for the procedure. Even though there are no incisions, the procedure could cause discomfort. Its important for the patient to remain still and comfortable during the procedure, so some type of anesthesia is generally used.
The patient will lay on a procedure table where cushion filled with water will be placed near the area being treated. The body will be positioned so the device can deliver precise shockwaves to the appropriate area. It may take a couple thousand shockwaves to break up stones, so the process may take around an hour to complete.
Following the procedure, patients will usually spend a few hours in the recovery room at the surgery center before being released home.

What Can Be Done If The Problem Is Psychological
Feeling worried, anxious, or depressed is normal when faced with a serious loss such as kidney disease and kidney failure. These emotions can cause loss of energy and lower interest in many activities, including sex. If a sexual problem does occur, embarrassment and guilt often follow. Fear that the problem will happen again may cause the person to shy away from sexual situations. Relaxation exercises can help to control these fears. Regular physical exercise and activity help keep the mind busy and can improve physical condition and body image. If sexual problems continue, sex therapy can help. Even if the problem is psychological, some of the treatment options mentioned for physical problems may be helpful.
Should You Worry About Antiperspirants
You may have noticed an FDA warning for people with kidney disease on labels of antiperspirants. Antiperspirants contain small amounts of aluminum, which temporarily plug sweat ducts to reduce perspiration. Excessive amounts of aluminum can be toxic. However, the amount of aluminum that is absorbed by the skin from antiperspirants is tinyespecially compared with the amount of aluminum people are exposed to naturally from water and soil. Recommended: If you have kidney disease, ask your doctor if you should stick with plain deodorants that dont contain aluminum.

Can Sex Therapy Help
Sex therapy deals with the sexual problems of couples and individuals. The first step in sex therapy may be sexual education for the individual or couple. The therapist may assign activities to be done at home. These include communication exercises, stress reduction activities, and practicing ways of improving skills in giving and receiving enjoyable touches. Sex therapy can help with problems such as low sexual interest, trouble in reaching climax or reaching climax too soon, pain during sexual activity, and erection difficulties. Therapy also can help a person work through the effects of chronic illness on sexual functioning.
A sex therapist can be a psychiatrist, psychologist, physician, or social worker. Look for someone who is licensed and who has advanced training and experience in sexuality and sexual problems. Charges vary and may be covered partly by insurance.

What Causes Retrograde Ejaculation
During sexual activity, as semen is leaving the body, it normally avoids entering the bladder due to a tightening of the bladder neck muscle. When this muscle is weak or damaged, it can inadvertently allow ejaculate to travel up into the bladder.
There are several reasons why the bladder neck muscle may not function properly. These causes are as follows:
Surgical damage Men who have had surgery related to prostate, bladder or testicular cancer may sustain damage to the muscle or surrounding nerves. These surgeries include a radical prostatectomy , cystectomy and retroperitoneal lymph node surgery . Men who undergo certain surgeries for benign prostatic hyperplasia may also suffer injury.
Disease states Retrograde ejaculation can be caused by health conditions that can cause nerve damage, including diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinsons. Injury to the spinal cord is also a factor.
Medications Some medications prescribed for an enlarged prostate, high blood pressure or mood disorders may cause retrograde ejaculation.

Intercourse Appears To Aid In Passage Of Kidney Stones
Drinking milk may do a body good, but so does frequent sex. Sexual intercourse may aid in the passage of distal ureteral kidney stones, suggests a study of 90 men conducted by Turkish researchers at the Clinic of Ankara. Distal utereral stones are stones that lodge in the lower portion of the ureters. Ureters are the tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder.
Researchers divided the male patients into three groups. Group one was advised to have sexual intercourse three-four times a week. Group two patients were administered tamsulosin. Tamsulosin is an alpha blocker thats used to treat an enlarged prostate. It relaxes muscles in the ureters making urination easier. Patients in the third group received standard medical therapy for kidney stones.
Researchers found that men who had sex three to four times a week had a better chance of spontaneously expelling their stones. Results of the study were published in July 2015 issue of Urology.

Removing Stones Through An Endoscopic Procedure
There are two common methods for removing stones through a surgical procedure: ureterorenoscopy and percutaneous nephrolithotripsy .
- Ureterorenoscopy : In this method, tiny instruments are moved through the urethra and bladder with the help of an , and pushed up into the ureter where the stone is. There the stone is either broken up mechanically or using a laser so that the pieces can be flushed out in the urine or removed using the endoscope. URS is used for stones that are bigger than 10 millimeters in diameter and are in the middle or lower third of the ureter. Kidney stones up to 20 millimeters in diameter are often removed using URS.
- Percutaneous nephrolithotripsy : In this method, an is moved into the renal pelvis or the kidney through a small cut made on your back. There the stones can also be either broken up mechanically or with a laser. Tiny forceps are used to remove the pieces of the kidney stones. This method is mainly used to treat kidney stones greater than 10 millimeters in diameter.
General anesthesia and a short hospital stay are necessary for both of these approaches.
Nowadays, more major surgery is only very rarely needed to remove kidney stones.
