How To Cook Fresh Ginger Root

Compared to dried ginger, fresh ginger will definitely add the most flavor to your food! Using fresh ginger is a little more work, but well worth it in my book!

To prepare fresh ginger, you can peel it using a vegetable peeler or a spoon! Then, use a sharp knife to mince, slice, or chop it.

Add minced ginger directly into homemade salad dressing or salads. Yes, you can eat ginger raw! Make your own ginger dressing for this spaghetti ginger salad!

For cooked dishes, sauté fresh ginger in a little oil along with ingredients like onion or garlic. This is a tasty way to start soups, stews, curries, or stir-fries! This Thai vegetable curry is a great example.

Convenience Ginger

You can buy fresh ginger that has already been chopped or pureed. As always, check the Nutrition Facts for these products. Many of these products have added sodium around 130mg per teaspoon of ginger!

Drinking black coffee, instead of coffee with high-potassium and high-phosphorus milk or high-calorie sugary drinks, will be your best bet.
  • Start with water that is not quite boiling .
  • Add a tea bag and steep for 24 minutes only.

    Eating a clean and nutritious diet plays an important role in keeping all the organs including the kidney functioning efficiently. A healthy diet reduces any potential risks for kidney diseases caused through inflammation or through poor dietary choices.

    For a person who has had a kidney transplant, following a nutrition-dense diet is vital to support optimal kidney function to protect any further damage or decline in the kidneys.

    While ginger in its natural form is safe to add to the diet of a kidney transplant patient, however, there are studies that indicate that ginger supplements might alter the absorption of tacrolimus .     Packaged Instant And Premade Meals

    Processed foods can be a major component of sodium in the diet.

    Among these foods, packaged, instant, and premade meals are usually the most heavily processed and thus contain the most sodium.

    Examples include frozen pizza, microwaveable meals, and instant noodles.

    Keeping sodium intake to 2,300 mg per day may be difficult if youre eating highly processed foods regularly.

    Heavily processed foods not only contain a large amount of sodium but also commonly lack nutrients .


    Packaged, instant, and premade meals are highly processed items that can contain very large amounts of sodium and lack nutrients. Its best to limit these foods on a renal diet.

    Swiss chard, spinach, and beet greens are leafy green vegetables that contain high amounts of various nutrients and minerals, including potassium.

    When served raw, the amount of potassium varies between 140290 mg per cup .

    While leafy vegetables shrink to a smaller serving size when cooked, the potassium content remains the same.

    For example, one-half cup of raw spinach will shrink to about 1 tablespoon when cooked. Thus, eating one-half cup of cooked spinach will contain a much higher amount of potassium than one-half cup of raw spinach.

    Excess eating of high protein, fat, vitamin C or calcium is the main reason behind kidney stones. Aside from this consumption of sugar, sodium above the daily limit, and not drinking sufficient water are also behind kidney stones.

    Daily 4 grams consumption of ginger is not going in line with these requirements. 4 grams serving of raw ginger contains very little amount of protein, fat, calcium, sodium, and sugar.

    Ginger does have a fair amount of oxalate. And, most of that oxalate is soluble, which makes it more absorbable. It is unlikely that eating or cooking with ginger will add a significant amount of oxalate to your diet. But, ginger supplements and extracts might. Id recommend avoiding ginger supplements if you have high urine oxalate.

    I have not seen someone off the street who was taking a toxic level of vitamin A or D those are very unusual, says David Katz, MD, director of the Yale University Prevention Research Center in New Haven, CT, whose medical practice specializes in nutrition. What Im more likely to see is a person with a dosing level of supplements thats higher than optimal.

    Scientists dont yet know if routinely getting a little bit too much of a vitamin or mineral is a problem, Katz says.
