Does Alkaline Water Have Side Effects

Kidney Stones (Benefits of Alkaline Kangen Water) Testimonials (Kangen Water Machines)

Alkaline drinking water is considered safe. Currently, theres no evidence that demonstrates negative side effects.

Although alkaline water has a different pH than regular water, your body will make physiological changes, like continuing to produce hydrochloric acid, to regulate the stomachs pH levels and achieve homeostasis, which is a state of stability.

Is Alkaline Water Good To Prevent Kidney Stones

Your kidney works out the toxins from your body and filters the blood approx 70 times per day.

The liver helps to break the toxins safely, which the kidney cant.

A high level of calcium, uric acid load, and oxalate or a low level of citrate in your urine leads to the form of kidney stones.

It balances pH level and neutralizes the acid reflux in your body then creates conditions unsuitable for kidney stones.

It changes the kidneys pH level and makes the removal process much easier than before.

The ionized water is good for our body and keeps your kidney hydrated for optimal performance.

According to studies that pass 2 to 2.5 liters of urine per day, they have a 50% less chance of kidney stone formation than those who produce less.

You need to drink 8 to 10 8-ounce glasses of water per day to produce that quantity of alkaline urine.

Now, you can say that alkaline water is the best water for kidney stones and you can also use a Best Small Water Pitcher to get it.

Hyperuricosuria and hyperoxaluria kidney stones can treat by drinking water.

But first, consult with your doctor that which type of kidney stone you have.

What Is Alkaline Water

Alkaline water is just as it sounds: water that is more alkaline than normal drinking water. Most water has a pH of about 7, and is neutral in terms of acidity and alkalinity. Alkaline water has electrolytes added to it to alkalize it, and it has a pH higher than 7.

The exact pH of alkaline water varies drastically by brand. In general, the pH of alkaline water ranges from 8 to 10.

How Can Alkaline Water Affect Bladder Health

Alkaline refers to the pH level of the water. The pH level measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is on a scale of 0-14. For example, lemon juice and vinegar are both very acidic, while baking soda and milk of magnesia are both very alkaline. At pH 8-9, alkaline water has a higher pH than regular drinking water, which is around 7. Alkaline water can have benefits such as:

  • Boosted Immune System
  • Promoted Healing and Longevity

There have been many studies that have found that alkaline water can be extremely effective in by inactivating the enzyme pepsin. Alkaline water can also reduce the blood viscosity, allowing the blood to flow through the body with more ease after an intense workout.

Drinking more water, especially alkaline water, can help people who struggle with urinary incontinence. One source states,

Drinking more water may actually help and does not exasperate the problem. Your body must have water to function properly and drinking less of it can irritate the bladder and increase urination frequency. Water is pure and your body uses it to flush out excess amounts of acid and bacteria. Sipping water all day long is a good habit that you can try to help your incontinence to improve.

What Makes Alkaline Water Different

Water is a combination of hydrogen and oxygen. Thats why you call it H2O. Waterâs pH level determines how acidic it is and ranges from 0 to 14. A pH of 7 is considered neutral. That âsevenâ number is considered neutral or balanced between acidic and alkaline. If water is below 7 on the pH scale, its acidic. If its higher than 7, its alkaline.

EPA guidelines state that the pH of tap water should be between 6.5 and 8.5. Still, tap water in the U.S. tends to fall below that in the 4.3 to 5.3 range depending on where you live.

Bottled water falls under different standards depending on whether it claims to be alkaline. Bottled alkaline water has a pH level above 7. In some cases, manufacturers use a special device to change the chemical makeup of the water. Other times, they add nutrients to the water to change its pH.

For comparison, orange juice has a pH of 3.3 and black coffee is about a 5. Pure water has a neutral pH of 7. But tap water in the U.S. tends to fall below that in the 4.3 to 5.3 range depending on where you live.

Is Alkaline Water Good For Gout

According to science, it is. High quality alkaline water comes with a high pH way better than what you can find in regular bottled water. In fact, the high pH is what makes water alkaline. This number tells you the acidity in a substance and can range between zero and 14.

If the number is smaller than seven, the respective substance is considered to be acidic. If the number is higher than this value, the substance is alkaline. High amounts of alkaline water will inevitably increase the pH balance in your urine as well. As a direct consequence, it will flush uric acid in a more efficient manner, preventing and treating gout and its flareups.

Causes Of Kidney Stones

Hyperoxaluria Calcium oxalate stones form when there is excess oxalate in the urine and/or not enough calcium in the diet. Doctors will often recommend a low oxalate diet with normal calcium intake.

Hypercalciuria Doctors will treat this by prescribing drugs to lower calcium excretion. Some of these drugs increase urine pH. Calcium binds to sodium in the urine. So the more sodium you consume, the more calcium you will discharge in your urine. For this reason, your doctor may recommend a low sodium diet.

It is important to note that you should maintain a normal intake of calcium even with hypercalciuria. Normal consumption of alkaline water may actually help reduce calcium excretion by raising urine pH

Hypocitraturia Citrate is a molecule that binds to calcium in the urine, which can prevent it from forming stones. Doctors typically prescribe citrate supplements for this. There is some evidence you can also raise urine citrate levels by drinking citrus juices like lemonade and orange juice.

You can make both orange juice and lemonade more alkaline with alkaline water. This can supply your body with both citrate and alkalinity, since alkaline water will raise the pH of both juices somewhat.

Hyperuricosuria Excess uric acid in your urine can be the result of excessive protein intake. A doctor will typically recommend a low protein diet Alkaline water can also help by providing adequate hydration to help dilute levels of uric acid.

How Water Prevents Kidney Stones

Is Alkaline water good for Kidney Patients?

According to Kidney.org, 1/10 people will have a kidney stone at some point in their life.

Youve probably been told about someones unfortunate experience with kidney stones, and heard how painful it can be. Maybe youve even had kidney stones yourself, or youre dealing with them now. Either way, these stones are not something we want if we can help it. Fortunately, theres one major thing you can do to keep kidney stones away . First, lets establish what kidney stones are and how they form in our bodies.

Kidney stones form when minerals in our urine build and solidify. Calcium usually binds with either oxalate or phosphorous . Then the compounds crystallize. These crystals get bigger over time, eventually becoming like stones. These stones move from our kidneys through our urinary tract, and are very difficult and painful to pass.

So how can you keep kidney stones from forming? The answer is easy: drink water. Not only is water the best way to avoid getting kidney stones, but it can also aid in healing if you ever do suffer from them.

Heres 3 main ways water can help prevent or remedy kidney stones.

1) Hydration

The number one cause of kidney stones is not drinking enough water. This is because your kidneys need lots of water to filter out the waste and excess minerals in your body. Without good hydration, the metabolic wastes mentioned abovecalcium, oxalate, phosphoruscant be eliminated or diluted properly. Thats when kidney stones form.

2) Reduced sodium

Alkaline Water & Kidney Stones

Since we dont know if alkaline water will actually reduce urine acid levels, I cannot recommend alkaline water above plain tap water.

There is also no research to show that alkaline water is good for kidney stones.

In addition, alkaline water can be very expensive. Id save your money and use it to buy fresh fruits and vegetables!

Preventing Uric Acid Stones

Uric acid stones are formed by a diet high in animal proteins, or from excessive uric acid production from within the body. Most of these stones can be prevented from making the urine less acidic which results in the uric acid being in a dissolved state.

This can be achieved in the majority of patients by alkalinizing the urine using oral bicarbonate preparations , and drinking plenty of oral fluids to keep the urine dilute.

In some circumstances an oral prescription medication called allopurinol maybe used to prevent excessive internal production of uric acid within the body.

Your doctor will advise you about your specific circumstances and tailor the treatment accordingly.

Considering Alkaline Water For Afs

While staying adequately hydrated is important for everyone, some state that alkaline water could improve Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome through enhancing the function of mitochondria and thus energy production.

While drinking alkaline water may be suggested by many, be cautious if you are trying to manage AFS. Those with AFS can have sensitive systems and react differently than others. Its always best to check with your doctor if you are thinking of making a change.

AFS occurs from excessive and prolonged stress, which could be from emotional, physical, or even psychological factors. While stress in and of itself is a natural mechanism that protects and prepares you for danger, too much of it could lead to health conditions.

When your body is in constant stress mode, or flight or fight mode, your adrenal glands, tiny glands on top of your kidneys, continue to pump out hormones to combat the stress in your bloodstream. With time, your adrenal glands are overworked, and your NeuroEndoMetabolic Stress Response system is disrupted, leading to AFS. Many begin to experience lack of energy, headaches, unexplained hair loss, weight gain, lack of sexual drive, insomnia, or even hypothyroidism. Many people taking part in our coaching program have experienced these symptoms. A qualified healthcare practitioner well-versed in adrenal fatigue can determine the root cause of these issues and help you in addressing them.

There Are A Number Of Reasons To Treat A Kidney Stone Even If It Is Not Causing Any Painful Symptoms

Alkaline Water & Kidney Stones: The Solution?

Recurring urinary tract infections

Some kidney stones may be infected, and in many cases, despite proper antibiotic treatment, the infection cannot be cleared from the stone. In such cases, the only way to remove the infection completely is to remove the stone.

Staghorn stones

These are extremely large stones that grow to fill the inside of the kidney. There are serious health risks associated with these stones, and left untreated they are associated with an increased risk of kidney failure.

Occupational requirements

For example, the Federal Aviation Administration will not allow a pilot to fly until all stones have been cleared from his or her kidney. Other occupations also do not allow for the unplanned passage of a kidney stone.

Extensive travel

The patient who, whether for business or otherwise, travels to locales where medical care is not reliable may wish to consider preventive treatment.

Patient preference

After thorough consideration of all options available to them, many patients elect to remove their stones at a time when it is convenient for them.

Kidney Disease Treatment With Alkaline Water

According to the US National Kidney Foundation, 1 in 9 Americans have Chronic Kidney Disease. Scientific studies show that at least 75% of Americans are dehydrated enough that it affects their health in a negative way, so for those 1 in 9, it has developed into kidney disease. In my article The Kidneys And Alkaline, Ionized Water, I explain what the kidneys do in the body and how dependent they are on water for their efficient and normal function. So now what happens if you have reduced kidney function because of chronic dehydration and acidosis?

According to scientific studies, there are several causes of kidney disease, some of them are supposed to be genetic. Scientific evidence shows that 35 per cent of what goes on in the body is genetic, the other 65 per cent we can control with lifestyle, so I dont know how much of an excuse we can give to genetics. Congenital defects are another matter and are those that happen in the womb, due to acidic lifestyle and diet of mom, in addition to inadequate water intake. One of the other causes of kidney disease is called Polycystic Disease. This is where cysts form in the kidneys and grow, damaging delicate tissues. It, too is caused by an acidic lifestyle and diet and inadequate hydration.

Check with your medical professional about how much fluid you should be taking and if you have to reduce your potassium intake and then to our health team at Cerra Water. Any stress you can reduce on your kidneys is worthwhile.

Does Alkaline Water Benefit Your Workout

The idea that alkaline water is medicinal and supports optimal health and athletic performance is based on the belief that acidic properties in the body and blood are the cause of poor health and disease and need to be neutralized. Therefore, promoting a more alkaline body by drinking alkaline water will lead to better health and fitness gains.

But many health professionals believe there isnt nearly enough research to support the bounty of health and hydration claims about alkaline water made by users and manufacturers.

One small study that was funded by an alkaline water company found that blood and urine pH increased after participants drank mineralized alkaline water for two weeks, compared with a control group of people who consumed regular bottled water. Hydration status was also slightly better in those drinking the specialty water. But there wasnt any evidence to suggest that these minor shifts had a meaningful benefit to the people involved in the investigation. The researchers also claimed that the alkaline water was more hydrating, because the average urine output of the alkaline water group was lower. But the fluid intake of study subjects was self-reported, so we dont know whether the two groups took in the same amounts. As such, we cant conclude that urinating less was a sign of better water retention and being more hydrated.

How To Find Your Hydration Sweet Spot

How Alkaline Water Helps Kidney Stones

The best place to start is to estimate how much water your body needs on average. I recommend starting with a half-ounce of water per pound of body weight, says Koskinen. Because muscle carries more water than fat, leaner people may stick closer to this number and those with more body fat may ratchet down, while people who are overweight or obese may want to use their ideal body weight in this calculation.

Many of us guzzle a set number of glasses per day to reach our H20 goals, which is a good way to get past your perma-parched ways in the beginningbut because hydration levels fluctuate day-to-day based on the weather, how hydrating your diet is, how active you are, and other bevvies you sip along the way, the amount of water you drink to fill in the blanks should be adjusted accordingly so as to not overdo it.

One of the easiest ways to fine-tune your hydration habits is to stop looking at it as a water-centric practice, and instead shift your focus to include fluids as a whole. Fluid doesnt just come from water, but from any beverage you drink, as well as many foods, says Koskinen. If soups, fruits and veggies, and smoothies are a regular part of your diet, then you might not need to replenish as oftenthe same goes for foods that melt at room temperature or are held in a gel matrix , she adds. Meanwhile, on days when youre a sucker for anything salty , an increased water intake may be required so the body can maintain equilibrium.
