What Is Suprep Bowel Prep
Suprep Bowel Prep contains a combination of magnesium, potassium, and sodium sulfates. Magnesium, potassium, and sodium are electrolyte minerals that occur naturally in body fluids and they are used in a laxative that works by increasing the amount of water in your intestines and helps your bowels to move more quickly.

Previous Failure Of Adequate Bowel Preparation
Inadequate bowel preparation has been reported in up to one third of colonoscopies. Therefore, identification of its risk factors could be very important. However, a model based on risk factors, such as male gender, inpatient status, and older age, correctly predicted inadequate bowel preparation in only 60% of patients. An intensive bowel preparation should be prescribed for patients scheduled for a colonoscopy who have experienced previous inadequate bowel preparation, which might be a predictor of inadequate bowel preparation.,

Danger To Kidneys May Lurk In Some Preparations For Colonoscopies
- Read in app
No one disputes that colonoscopies save lives. But recent research has prompted concern that in rare instances certain popular bowel-cleansing preparations that patients gulp down the day before a procedure can severely damage the kidneys.
The products are oral preparations made with sodium phosphate and they include Visicol tablets, sold by prescription, and over-the-counter solutions like Fleet-Phosphosoda and store-brand versions that contain the same active ingredients.
A team of doctors from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons recently reported 21 cases of acute kidney failure from such products, including three that led to permanent dialysis and one to a kidney transplant. The study appeared in the November issue of The Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
Previously, just a few groups of patients, notably those with impaired kidneys or congestive heart failure, had been advised to avoid phosphate-based bowel preparations.
The new findings lengthen the list of people who may be especially vulnerable to kidney damage. Among the dozen or so groups now thought to have a slightly elevated risk are healthy elderly people, patients with unstable angina or who have had heart attacks and anyone who is especially likely to become dehydrated, including people who take certain hypertension drugs and people who do not drink enough fluid to replenish that lost in bowel cleansing.
“We see rare things commonly,” Dr. Markowitz said.

Colonic Mucosal Ulcerations And Ischemic Colitis
Osmotic laxative products may produce colonic mucosal aphthous ulcerations, and there have been reports of more serious cases of ischemic colitis requiring hospitalization. Concurrent use of stimulant laxatives and Suprep Bowel Prep Kit may increase these risks . Consider the potential for mucosal ulcerations resulting from the bowel preparation when interpreting colonoscopy findings in patients with known or suspect inflammatory bowel disease .

Regular Colonoscopies Can Save Your Life
Most patients who develop colon cancer have no obvious risk factors. If you have a colon, you are at risk for colon cancer. Colon cancer arises from colon polyps. If colon polyps are removed, colon cancer is decreased. Even if colon cancer is present, when detectable in early stages, it is curable. Thats why colonoscopies are vital for your health, Dr. Burke says.
The American Cancer Society estimates that about 53,000 people will die from colorectal cancer in 2021. Colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in U.S. for men and women.
The good news? The death rate continues to drop, thanks to early screenings and better treatment. The key is to have regular exams beginning at age 45, or earlier if you have risk factors.
Excellent quality of colon cleansing helps your doctor spot signs of trouble.
Drinking a laxative prep to cleanse your bowel isnt everyones favorite thing to do. But its a key part of your colonoscopy. If the colon lining is not clear of solid and liquid, then bowel residue can cover polyps which are a precursor for cancer and can be missed, Dr. Burke says.
Good preps make the exam more effective and efficient. Ifyour prep is poor, the doctor may need to repeat your exam and youll need torepeat the prep.
